DEPARTMENT OF DISEASE CONTROL AND IMMUNIZATION
The department of disease control and immunization oversees the technical implementation of immunization activities (routine and supplemental) in Nigeria. It
provides policy guidance, vaccine logistics and technical support for immunization services to the states and local government areas.
It has the responsibility of coordinating logistics, vaccine procurement and security in collaboration with other development partners and agencies. The department also has
the role of planning, implementing and supervising outbreak response activities in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and partners. The department
is therefore responsible for the achievement of the first of the 7 core mandates (goals) of the agency: the prevention and control of preventable diseases.
The divisions are:
- Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIAs), subdivided into polio and non-polio SIAs units.
- Vaccine Security and Logistics.
- Disease Control, subdivided into Laboratory/Surveillance and Outbreak Response units.
- Routine Immunization & External Support Services (ESS), subdivided into RI (Public), RI (Private) and ESS. External Support Services is further subdivided into GAVI and EU Prime units.
