MBBS, MPH, MRSPH – INCIDENT MANAGER FOR POLIO AND DIRECTOR COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES

Dr. Usman Saidu Adamu is Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Incident Manager of the National Polio Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) at the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), where he currently coordinates a team of experts from government of Nigeria and development partners applying the global standard incident management system (IMS) working towards polio eradication and certification of Nigeria as a polio free country. Dr Adamu is also currently the Director of the Community Health Services Department of the NPHCDA.


Before his re-deployment as the incident Manager in June of 2016, he was the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Director/CEO (ED/CEO) of the NPHCDA, in the office of the ED/CEO in March of 2016. He served as the Zonal Director of the NPHCDA in the North East Zonal office where he coordinated the Agency’s activities from 2011 to 2016.


He joined the services of the NPHCDA as Chief Supplemental Immunization Officer in the then Operations Department of the Agency in the year 2000, after which he was redeployed to the South-South Zonal office in the year 2001 where he served as the Zonal Coordinator until June 2002.


Dr. Adamu holds a medical degree from the prestigious Plovdiv (I. P. Pavlov) Medical University at Plovdiv in Bulgaria in 1988, as well as master’s degree in public health from the Ahmadu Bello University in the year 2009. He has also attended Courses in Leadership in Health System Management from the University of Washington in the USA as well as applied Epidemiology in Global Health from the same University in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
