Dr. Adamu Nuhu was appointed as the pioneer Director of the newly created Department of Advocacy and Communication on 25th August 2014. Before then, he had been on the rank of a Chief Medical Officer in the NPHCDA since 1st January 2009.

Initially, the defunct National Programme on Immunization (NPI) employed Dr. Nuhu in 2004 as a Deputy Director, Communication, until its merger with the NPHCDA in 2007. He has been at various times head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Surveillance (2005-2007), Routine Immunization (2007-2010), Disease Control (2010-2013) and Supplemental Immunization Activities (2013-2014) 

He has attended several local and international courses such as Data Management; Epidemiology and Control Measures of Vaccine-preventable Diseases; WHO 2nd Regional Vaccinology course; Integrated Training on EPI and Child Health; Disease Control; Leading a Project Team; Advanced Management Course; and also participated in the planning and facilitation of the Nigeria MLM course for immunization managers.

Dr. Nuhu is a medical graduate (MBBS 1982) from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria who commenced in clinical practice and general surgery in the early '80s and the '90s, including period of practice as an Aviation Medical Examiner. He also has an MBA from Bayero University, Kano (1997). He was later appointed a member of the Kano State Executive Council and Honorable Commissioner for Health in the period 1997-1999.

He is an active member of many professional associations such as Nigeria Medical Association, Aerospace Medical Association, American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, International Association of Immunization Managers, Member Nigeria Institute of Management etc.
