We aim to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of primary health care delivery in Nigeria and promote inclusive access to quality healthcare for all Nigerians regardless of who or where they are.

In pursuance of our overall mission, the NPHCDA strives to fulfil these seven corporate goals:

Control Preventable Diseases

We work to create a world where Nigerians are no longer threatened by or die at the hands of preventable diseases. Through interventions for controlling, preventing, and scaling up national immunization services, we are able to abolish vaccine-preventable diseases and prevent needless deaths.

  • Eradicating polio through innovative and measurable approaches.
  • Limiting the occurrence and impact of diseases using education, immunization and other proven interventions.
  • Promoting immunization communitywide, especially to the most vulnerable.
  • Fostering access to disease prevention, care, treatment and support services.

Improve Access to Basic Health Service

We play a big role in combating diseases by providing Nigerians access to basic health services, improving equity, efficiency and sustainability of health systems — with a focus on reducing mortality for the most vulnerable, like children, and ensuring they get quality healthcare when needed.

  • Encouraging inclusive access to basic health services in Nigerian communities.
  • Ensuring communities have access to health facilities, services and health insurance.
  • Addressing the healthcare needs of the most vulnerable (Children).
  • Improving overall population health in Nigeria.

Improve Quality of Care

We set policies in place to ensure that primary health services are responsive to the needs of the people, friendly, accessible, and affordable. By providing a platform for all stakeholders in the health sector to discuss matters relating to health policy issues and best practices, we help improve the health and quality of life of Nigerians.

  • Ensuring basic health services are people-oriented.
  • Enforcing healthcare delivery policies so that it is always in accordance with established quality standards.
  • Strengthening the planning, management and monitoring of health care services.
  • Preventing diseases by promoting healthy practices across board.

Develop High-Performing Health Workforce

We empower states and their local governments to achieve and sustain universal health coverage and better healthcare outcomes — using good governance reform initiatives that lead to institutional development to improve people’s health status and help the government plan the PHC sector.

  • Organizing systems and structures to deliver effective healthcare support services.
  • Strengthening PHC guidelines, norms and enabling acts for states and LGAs.
  • Enforcing support policies to ensure proper healthcare service delivery to Nigerians.
  • Reinforcing health systems and partnerships so that providers can deliver better health care.

Strengthen The Institution

We enhance the governance framework of healthcare service delivery across Nigeria by promoting efficient and effective planning, coordination, management and monitoring at the primary healthcare level — including strengthening zonal structures, state representation, internal communications, monitoring and evaluation, procurement and financial management system.
