On Monday, 15th April 2025, Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director/CEO of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), joined the Borno State Governor, His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the State Head of Service, and development partners to flag off the Safer Births Bundle of Care (SBBC) Approach.

SBBC comprises innovative clinical and training tools for improved labor care and newborn resuscitation. This is to equip frontline healthcare workers with the necessary skills required to further reduce stillbirths and newborn and maternal deaths during deliveries.

Dr. Aina, in his goodwill message, described the flag-off of the SBBC approach as a “momentous event” for both the Borno State Government and NPHCDA, as it aligns with NPHCDA’s ongoing efforts “to achieve the objectives of the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).”

He added that the simulation mannequins and SBBC tools, and the planned training of frontline health workers in the selected facilities on the tools in Borno State, will further complement the NPHCDA training of 1,020 frontline health workers on integrated service delivery in the state in phase one of the ongoing national health workers training.

NPHCDA appreciates the Norwegian Church Aid, the Laerdal Global Health, and Haydom Lutheran Hospital for the donation of the SBBC tools and contributions to achieving safe inspection of the births in Borno State.
