Abuja: As part of its commitment to build the capacity of its staff, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has commenced the training of 126 newly recruited staff under the its Leadership Development Academy (LDA). The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina, visited the training venue today, and urged the trainees to engage in self-development and assured them that the Agency will equip them with the necessary ‘skills and tools to be effective’ in their jobs and ‘to enhance primary health care in Nigeria’.
Dr. Aina added that their recruitment is part of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on job creation for Nigerians as a dividend of democracy. He then urged the new staff to appreciate the President’s good gesture.
Earlier at the flag-off of the onboarding and training on Monday, the NPHCDA Executive Director and CEO, said the new staff were joining the Agency ‘at a unique moment in Nigeria’s primary health journey’ and that ‘the President is deeply committed to addressing the historical challenges in our health sector’. He added that ‘the government, under President Bola Tinubu, has given you a platform to make an impact, serve your country, and advance your own careers. But your success depends on the choices you make, the effort you put in, and the values you uphold’.
The training is in furtherance of the ongoing transformation of the Agency to position it for effective and accountable implementation of the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII), and the Agency ongoing efforts to engender a skilled, motivated and engaged workforce, as articulated in its strategic blueprint, under Dr. Aina’s leadership.
The NPHCDA Leadership Development Academy was established 2019 as a long-term measure to institute an in-house system to continually build the leadership and management skills of mid-level staff for effective performance and delivery of Technical Assistance to States. It has trained four cohorts of new employees and graduated 55 Fellows in two cohorts.
