Onboarding of New Executive Secretaries of State Primary Health Care Boards

This week, the NPHCDA convened a 2-day onboarding of nine (9) newly appointed Executive Secretaries of State Primary Health Care Boards (SPHCBs) from Kano, Rivers, Nasarawa, Ekiti, Kebbi, Kogi, Imo, Edo, and Taraba States.
The onboarding exercise is aimed at introducing the new executive secretaries to Nigeria’s Primary Health Care (PHC) program, its policies, priority interventions, and their responsibilities as SPHCB chief executives in advancing the implementation of the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).

Speaking at the onboarding, the Executive Director/CEO of NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina, emphasized the importance of synergy between the federal, state, and local governments to drive ongoing reforms in the PHC system in Nigeria. He reiterated the fact that PHC is about the people and not just systems, saying, “This work is not just about systems, regulations, or facilities. It’s about people. It’s about whether a mother keeps her child alive, whether a baby survives childbirth, and whether families have hope. That is the difference your work makes.”

Dr. Aina then urged the Executive Secretaries to see themselves as part of one system, working together—federal, state, and local governments—for the benefit of our communities.”

We congratulate and wish the executive secretaries success in their new roles!
