Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII)

The overall objective of MAMII is to significantly reduce maternal and newborn mortality, by

1
Strengthening the demand for and supply of quality health services at the community, BEmONC, (PHC Facilities) and CEmONC Centres.
2
Scaling-up the uptake of the practices in maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response (MPDSR) .

172 LGAs with the highest maternal mortality rates have been identified for the implementation of intensive, tailored interventions to significantly reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. This will be through coordinated action, innovative strategies, and mutual collaboration amongst FMoH, NPHCDA, NHIA, NEMSAS, States/LGAs and Partners. The NPHCDA implementation strategy deploys a direct client-centered service delivery approach to ensure every woman, and her child gets the support they need through their journey from pregnancy to childbirth and beyond. This involves mapping of all pregnant women, linking them to a dedicated health care team (CBHWs, HCWs), ensuring the woman has the correct information and agency to seek care, having required RMNCAH services delivered directly to her at no cost, including FREE Caesarean and treatment of complications.
